Transits and Progressions
Transits: What the Planets in the Sky Are Doing
Your natal chart is a fixed snapshot, but the planets in the sky are moving every day. When the current planets form aspects with the planets in your natal chart, it creates "transits" — the primary mechanism that triggers events in your life.
Planetary Speed and Influence Cycles
- Moon transits (changes signs every 2.5 days) → affects daily emotional fluctuations
- Mercury, Venus, Mars transits (several weeks) → short-term opportunities for communication, socializing, and action
- Jupiter transits (about 1 year in a sign) → medium-term expansion and opportunities
- Saturn transits (about 2.5 years in a sign) → long-term tests and construction
- Outer planets transits (several years to over a decade) → profound life transformations
Key Transit Events
Saturn Return (around age 29, 58)
Saturn completes a full cycle and returns to its natal position. The first time (around age 29) is a true moment of "adulthood," where you face your responsibilities and limitations, often forced to let go of what no longer serves you. It’s challenging but necessary.
Pluto Aspects
When Pluto transits conjunct or square your natal planets (which can last 2-3 years), the life area represented by that planet will undergo profound "death and rebirth." The process is painful, but the outcome is transformative.
Jupiter Return (approximately every 12 years)
Brings new perspectives and opportunities. Every 12 years, you enter a new "expansion cycle."
Progressions: Your Chart is "Growing Up"
Progressions are another predictive technique. The basic principle is "one day corresponds to one year" — the chart for the 30th day after your birth corresponds to your life state at age 30.
Progressed Moon (most commonly used)
The progressed Moon changes signs approximately every 2.5 years, completing a full cycle in about 27-28 years. It describes your inner rhythm of emotional development:
- Progressed Moon in fire signs → your emotional needs call for action and adventure
- Progressed Moon in water signs → your emotional needs call for depth and reflection
- Progressed Moon during a new moon phase → inner rebirth, suitable for starting new directions
- Progressed Moon during a full moon phase → inner fulfillment, the seeds sown previously bear fruit
Solar Arc Progressions
Each planet progresses about 1 degree per year. When planets in solar arc progressions form precise aspects (with very tight orbs), it often corresponds to significant life events.
How Do We Integrate These Techniques?
In our analysis, transits and progressions are tools that validate each other:
- If both transits and progressions point to the same theme → that event is likely to occur
- If there are transits without corresponding progressions → external events may happen, but internally you might not be ready
- If there are progressions without transit triggers → internal changes are happening, but there may not yet be external expressions
This is why we look at multiple techniques simultaneously — relying on just one can lead to misinterpretation, but cross-verifying with various methods significantly enhances accuracy.
